Cambridgeshire

Today was a girls day out. The four of us (Kayley, Kim, Debbie and myself) decided to take a day trip to one of the quaint, adorable 'cities' outside of London. The group consensus was to go to Cambridge. Our day began with a trainride to Cambridge, early in the morning. We went to Kings Cross staion and found platform 9 3/4!!! yay Harry Potter!!!! :-)



Cambridge is, visually, a great town. It has loads of amazing architecture, that I think people describe as, gothic? Maybe not, maybe it is romanitc, or renaissance or something. But, either way, when you walk through the city you feel as though you have stepped back in time about 600 years. Cambridge is teh quintessential story book land. kinda cool. Other than the visually pleasing asthetic of the city, there is not a lot to actually do. As students, we didn't want to actually pay to go inside any of the chapels or colleges the city is famous for, so we found other modes of entertainment :)


Instead of all the intellectually stimulating activities offered by the city, we decided to eat - lots of various foods from various tea houses, pubs and chocolate shops - and punt down the river. That is, we decided to punt ourselves down the river and forego the guide who knows what he is actually doing (once again, saving money) Our little adventure down the River Cam on boat was really hilarious! I am sure we not only entertained ourselves, but all those watching us :) Firstly, instead of the long, giant stick you are supposed to use, we opted for paddles. Secondly, we were really bad at using these paddles, which ended up with us zig zagging down the whole river, often bumping into walls or other boats. Oops. Luckily, with all my years of camp counselor experience I was able to whip the other three girls into proper canoeing shape, and, by the end of our adventure we had managed to row the boat in a straight line and properly dock it!!!


After that adventure we ate lunch at a pub, did some more walking and then went to a proper English tea house for afternoon tea! We even had scones and jam with our afternoon tea. It was very nice.

As nice as it was to get away and see something new, I am REALLY glad that I am studying in London - in the big city - and not in a place as small as Cambridge :)
