To the North!

I am a little behind in my blog, as last weekend I was in Scotland. Edinburgh to be exact. But it felt more like the North Pole! It was freezing in Edinburgh and the wind chill cut right throught to the bones. So this meant that I spent a lot of time in Edinburgh in the pubs and cafe's warming up with some coffee, cocoa or a good pint.



Despite the bitter temperatures, Edinburgh is a beautiful city. And Scotland a beautiful country - very green. We took the train from London to Edinburgh and the views from the train are stunning. Seaside on one side of the train and green pastures with sheep and medieval houses on the other. Quite cool.

In Edinburgh, everywhere you look there is a photo opportunity. From the bays of water and the fields which lie just outside the city to the medieval old and new towns within the city.

Saturday was the big "touristy" day, i which Katie and I did all of the typical things tourits do when they visit the City. we went to the Edinburgh Castle, which has an amazing history. The prison still has etchings in the stone form when POWs from the American War of Independence (The Revolutionary War) were there in the 1700's!! Leaving the Castle, we walked down the Royal Mile, which is an old cobblestone street which runs from the Castle, to the Queens home - it is the same home which housed Mary, Queen of Scots!





After the Castle, walking the royal mile and doing a bit or touristy shopping, I decided to climb the massive rock/hill in the middle of the city known as "Arthurs Seat." It was a bit cold at the top, but the hike was good and the veiws from Arthurs seat were incredible.





That night, Katie and I went out to dinner and then to a nice cocktail bar that was all decked out with christmas decorations galore! We thought it looked fun so we went in. We sat at a table and on old Scottish couple joined us and chatted with us for a while. They were very sweet and so fun to talk to! Also, a friend from Gonzaga - John Gilliland came down to meet up with me, as he is working in Scotland at the moment. It was really nice to see a familar face and catch up with him.



we came back to London on sunday and it felt SO GOOD to be home! I have been traveling every weekend for the past three weeks and it is quite exhausting!
